The Fundamentals of Precision Forming

Sheet metal bending is a highly controlled manufacturing process where force is applied to a piece of sheet metal to alter its geometry without changing its volume. Using CNC-controlled press brakes, the metal is clamped between a specialized punch (the upper tool) and a die (the bottom tool). The pressure forces the flat metal to conform to the shape of the die, creating precise V-shapes, U-channels, or custom angles.

At BSG, we utilize advanced bending techniques to meet exact engineering specifications. Air bending provides versatility with three-point contact for flexible angle creation. Bottoming presses the material fully into the V-die for higher precision and less springback. Coining applies intense force to permanently stamp the exact shape into the metal, neutralizing springback entirely.

Multi-Bend Sequencing

Complex parts with multiple flanges and return bends are programmed in optimized CNC sequences. Our 8-axis backgauges ensure each bend is precisely positioned relative to the previous one.
